Pic of the Day

Been there bro...

Accidental Bliss: Matt Damon Screaming at Adrien Grenier leads to TURKEY CHEESE FRIES!!!

I accidently came across this video:

While looking for this video:

10 Artists You Should Be Listening To

Miike Snow

Consists of singer/songwriter Andrew Wyatt, and the producing team of Christian Karlsson and Pontus Winnberg, AKA Bloodshy & Avant, who have produced for Madonna, Kylie Minogue, and won a Grammy on Britney Spear's "Toxic". The debut album, "Miike Snow", is blowing up with a fresh sound and strong musical arrangements. The most complete and best album I've heard since Hot Chip's "Made in The Dark".

Essential Track: "Animal"

While some may be keen to these two already, they're still reasonably fresha nd had to be on the list. Discovery result of Vampire Weekend keyboardist Rostam Batmanglij and Ra Ra Riot singer Wes Miles. Bumping synths, auto-tune, and erratic drum machines make this by far one of the best and most original sounds of '09.

Essential Track: ALL...but if I had to choose one: "So Insane"

I wrote about these guys last week. Boston group breaking out with a true power synth pop sound sounding like Saved by The Bell meets DFA. Awesome.

Essential Track: Tuff n' Stuff

First Hip Hop act on the list. Rob Roy is a Florida native by way of L.A. Last year he was flipping frozen food at Trader Joe's. Now he's got Pharell on speed dial. Broke out with his sick video for "Fur in My Cap" and is only going to get bigger. Chunky yet minimal beats and a conversational drawl is his appeal, as well as the lighthearted and comedic themes of his rhymes.

Essential Track: "Fur in My Cap"

Remixer blowing UP. Has reworked the likes of Passion Pit, Lady Gaga, Little Boots and Digitalism. His remixes are all completely original sounding and with extremely tight production. Look for some work of his own being produced in the future, he's going to be major.

Essential Track: Sleepy Head (StarSmith Remix feat. Ellie Goulding)

Duke senior, and white boy extraordinaire Mike Posner defies pigeon holing. This kid is crazy. A rapper/R&B crooner with beautiful production skills and sound. This exceprt from his myspace bio says it all:
"In January 2009, Posner holed up in his dorm room and wrote, produced and recorded every track on his debut mixtape, A Matter of Time. The mixtape hit the Web in March, sparking a months-long label bidding war, where J Records emerged the victor. Even with all his musical accomplishments, Mike hasn’t abandoned his studies just yet, as evidenced by his hustle during finals week this semester. “Thursday and Friday I performed in Detroit. Saturday I performed at the University of Dayton. I had three finals on Tuesday, a show at Duke Wednesday, did a song with Wale and 9th Wonder Thursday, and Friday I had a meeting with Jay-Z.”

Essential Track: "Cooler Than Me"

Besides the disturbing name, these guys are the shit. Hailing from Brooklyn (what hot musical act isn't these days?) jumped onto the scene in a big way earlier this year. Post-punk electro rock. Shit is tight.

Essential Track: "Dressed to Digress" and "L'homme"

Now this band has an awesome name. Fucking Bear Hands. Awesome on several levels. Anyways, another Brooklyn outfit with a stripped down, bare bones Hifi sound. MGMT meets Flaming Lips and you have Bear Hands.

Essential Track: "High Society"

I've been singing this girls praises for about 2 years now, and with the drop of her fist full length LP "Ultraviolet", maybe she'll finally blow up to the expectations I had last year. The younger sister of one of the members of hard body DJ outfit "Flosstradamus", Kid is on A-Traks Fool's Gold record label, which nurtured and boosted the careers of Kid Cudi and the Cool Kids, and hopefully 2010 will be her year.

Essential (if old) Track: "Pro Nails"

First heard of this kid a few months back with his remix of Kid Cudi's "That New New" and was blown away by his technical proficiency in his remixes. Completely changes the sound from the original song, in my opinion the ultimate goal in a remix, and now has down re-works for acts like Amanda Blank, The Sounds, Schwayze, and Cut Copy among others. 2010's gonna be big for this Virginia (?) native.

Essential Track: Kid Cudi "Dat New New" (Viking Remix)

I'm Just Sayin...

What is the deal with the national media's obsession with Sarah Palin? I understood when this woman was running for VP, but now she couldn't be more insignificant, or stupid for that matter. There must be more newsworthy items. How about the recent release of Bob Dylan's Christmas album?! I'm just sayin...

Sweet Voices Cover Hip Hop Staples

I'm always a fan of a good cover. Miles Fisher's cover of the Talking Head's "This Must Be The Place" brings a tear of joy to my eye. Phish covering "Rock & Roll" or "Loving Cup" is amazing. While these two recent covers by two beautifully voiced women (Emily Wells and Anya Marina) aren't necessarily breaking into my top 10, they're still very well done and extremely original takes on two classic tracks by a couple legends of rap music.

WHOA!

This must be a misguided attempt to be casted on MTV's upcoming show "Guidos".

Song of the Day

Weeze(r)-Can't Stop Partying (feat. Lil Wayne)

When I was growing up, I fucking LOVED Weezer. I thought rivers Cuomo was a genius (well he kind of his, he went to Harvard, and wrote "El Scorcho" about his frustrating romances with all the Asian under grads) and they could do know wrong. To this day, "Say it Ain't So" is still one of my all time favorite tracks. So needless to say I was pretty pumped to hear the new album when it dropped a few back. The name is amazing, even thoug RATitude would've been better. However, the news a few months back that Weezy was doing a guest appearance on a track called "Can't Stop Partying" is what really got me excited to peep this album. The song is a somewhat satirical prod at the rock start lifestyle and party scene, and Weezy's only on here for a quick verse, however the collabo cannot be denied. "Party like tomorrow is my funeral/gotta stop mixing alcohol and pharmaceuticals" No matter how you feel about the song, you gotta respect the hustle. Also, the videos not too bad.

Up and Coming: Yes Giantess

Fan of Passion Pit? Phoenix? Well your in luck kiddies. Yes Giantess has arrived with more of that synth pop sound you cream over. Like Passion Pit, YG hails from Massachusetts, Boston to be exact, but don't let that deter all you NY haters. These 4 kids bring that futuristic throwback sound in a more mainstream indie/pop format that we've grown to love. Although "You Were Young" is really pushing the edge of Jonas Brother tween sound, I still love these guys, even if it's only to fill the void until the next great sound I come across. They released an EP with Neon Gold earlier this year of "Tuff n Stuff", a great track, with the "You Were Young" B side, but they have several other tight tracks available on their myspace, on which Neon Gold describes their sound as ""Ratatat-sized synths and huge pop choruses. [Yes Giantess] is pretty much the sonic equivalent of flying down the yellow brick road while its raining ecstasy and skittles, and yeah, you're gonna want to taste this rainbow." Also they have a downloadable mixtape up there thats a nice pre-gamer and also a nice late night banger remix they produced of Eric Hassles "Don't Bring Flowers". Peep them, and catch them live on the EC this fall. These guys are gonna blow up. Tracks after the jump.

Andy Samberg Bro Crush Level: 95% (NoMo)

Song of the Day

This isn't by any means just breaking, but it IS relatively new, and i haven't written in a while, PLUS it's a cover of Vampire Weekend by PETER GABRIEL and HOT CHIP. Stuff legends are made of. Great summer song (teardrop), but a nice mellow fall afternoon song as well.

Thursday Weekend Preview: A Music and Art Guide to the Upcoming Weekend

So once gain the cusp of the weekend is upon us. For many Thursday marks the unofficial start of the weekend, even though in NYC it basically starts Tuesday, well, Monday during football season. But I digress. I'm going to make this a weekly piece to inform you of what's poppin this weekend in the music and art world. There's a lot of good acts this weekend, so let's just get right into it:

Music:

FRIDAY 11/13

The Cool Kids @ Webster Hall. The throwback MC's Mickey Rocks & Chuck INglish, best known for their barebones production and light hearted rhymes about bikes and shit come to LES Friday, with XXXchange from Spank Rock. Best part: $1 entrance and drinks with rsvp before midnight through going.com. We up in this.

Bass Nectar @ The Fillmore Irving Plaza. This dude KILLS it. A little pricey for my current financial standing ($25, sad I know), but worth it. Lorin Ashton is a BEAST on the decks, with his 4 foot long main of hair swaying and
thrashing to the music, resembling some sort of oracle out of '300'. He mashes everything from electro to dub-step to Slayer, and make sit all sound good.

SATURDAY 11/14

Crooked Disco @ la Poisson Rouge. Join DJs Morsy and Kestar, aka the Crooked Disco DJs, for Play Date, their monthly party at the gallery at Le Poisson Rouge. Play Date is a unique, free, party featuring the Crooked Disco DJs all night long on the decks sharing their favorite new music, premiering their latest custom tracks and remixes, and digging out rediscovered dancefloor classics. PLUS a portion of Proceeds go to Movember, a Cancer research Charity.

Peaches & Amanda Blank @ Terminal 5. Peaches is a legend. Amanda Blank will be. Both are from the new school trip-hop sexy bitch scene (see: Santigold, MIA), of which Peaches basically started. I'll be in attendance with the other Amanda, more sexy, slightly less lyrically gifted.

Art:

A Few Frames: Photography and the Contact Sheet
Now through 1/3/10 @ the Whitney.

In this selection of works drawn principally from the Whitney’s permanent collection, the repetitive image of the proof sheet is the leitmotif in a variety of works spanning the range of the Whitney’s photography collection, including the works of Paul McCarthy, Robert Frank, Ed Ruscha and Andy Warhol.

Robert Bergman
Now through 1/09 @ Yossi Milo Gallery

This 65 year old photographer is coming out of his shell in a big way. Having never formerly showed at a gallery or exhibition before, Bergman will be debuting his work not only in the Chelsea gallery, but also at PS1 Contemporary Art Center and the National Gallery of Art. Bergman's photos are mostly a result of a decade long road trip across the U.S., taking portraits of social misfits and just generally left of center characters. His work evokes a strong response, often from he haunting eyes and expressions of his subjects. Peep the work.

HighDEAS: Tween pot heads post between bong rips

As I was reading an article on NY Mag yesterday I came across a link to a website called highDEAS. The basic gist is stoners post these 'profound' ideas that they have while high. Yup. Genius I know. We've all been there. You're sitting around your college apartment (see: shit hole), after partaking in some elicit activities when one of your buddies, usually the the most intellectually challenged of the group, enlightens everyone on some great idea, like starting a company that manufactures pop-tart iPod cases. I'm guilty of a highDEA that I still think is genius: a site called Myface, which somehow melds myspace and facebook? No? Whatever. Anyhow, while many of these postings are lame and produced my overzealous, still weed enthralled teenagers, most of which probably own at least one black light poster and the mandatory Phish shirt, there are some GEMS to be found amongst the garbage. Here's a sample of some of my contenders:

Dinosaurs are fucking tight

Dinosaurs are so fucking tight to look at when your high. It's just fucking strange to think that there were these big ass animals walkin around and shit.

Those guys

Does anyone notice that we use the term "they" when ever we think things should be invented?

"I think they should make gushers cereal"

Aligator trampoline

......I actually forgot what i was going to write.

Vacum Cleaners

Whoever Thought of Vacums? I mean they just cruise around and suck stuff up. I think they're pretty fuckin sweet if you ask me.

We're (I'm) BACK!

It's been roughly six months since I last posted on this highly acclaimed blog of mine. There was no significant reason for my hiatus other than laziness, bad shot term memory, and a overwhelming sense of insignificance. Nonetheless (second time I've used that word in an hour?), I return triumphantly to bring you more news, boos, and reviews of all things relevant to me, NYC, and perhaps you. Got me a new layout, color scheme, and logo all to distract from the terrible and inconsequential spattering of words before you. So, yeah, we back in this bitch: Totes McGoats.

Remix of the Day

FIIIIIIIIIIIIIRRRREEEEEEE

"Gangland" : Helping your everyday American understand your local gang's jargon

So I was watching "gangland" on  The History Channel last night, and this one was actually on the gang life in ANCHORAGE, ALASKA!  Evidently there is actually a large population of displaced California Crips in Anchorage, along with rival bloods.  The best part however, other than the obvious retarded interviews and Inuet 'Gangstas screaming random area codes at the camera was when they would throw up these slang terms along with their definitions, which were read by an extremely white, conservative sounding gentleman.

Thanks History Channel!  Now on my walk home to Bushwick, I'll understand what everyone is talking about!

D to the mother fucking C

In my 23 years on this planet I had traveled up and down the East Coast hundreds of times, for lacrosse, touring with Phish, and vacations, and countless other reasons, yet I had never stopped in our great nation's capital, Washington DC.  This past Memorial Day  weekend, a fitting time, I made my first trip with Lee and spent the weekend at her fathers house, sans father.

I can honestly say it is one of the nicest cities I have ever been to.  I don't know what I was expecting,  but it was NICE.  Super clean, very diverse, both culturally and arhcitecurally (is that a word?), and the perfect amount of southern charm.  Very preppy, eh, but all around pretty 'hip'.  We spent a lot of time in Georgetown and laying around her pool drinking/tanning/bbq'ing, but did venture downtown to the mall and caught a bunch of the sites (see pics below), which was very cool.

We drank by the waterfront one afternoon at a big open air bar.  Had cocktails and dinner the next day on the Verandah at Congressional (see: BALLER), drank at some exclusive Russian vodka bar by the embassy, and had an all around Love 2 (not) Hate time.

It's the type of city that would be awesome to live in, but not for another 10 years.  It's just flat out...nice.   I'll definitely be heading back soon.

****HIGHLIGHTS OF THE WEEKEND*****

-Jumbo Slice Pizza-slices literally about 3 times the size of my head.  Fucking absurd.  And tasty.
-Being called a Jonas Brother by a frat boy at a bar.  Painful on so many levels...
-Congressional Verandah cocktails.  Felt like I was sippin wine on a Colombian coke lords manor.  Gem.
-Seeing Greg Olcott and his huge, ugly head
-WWII memorial.  Sobering.
-Fish Tacos
-"Warm out today.  Warm out yesterday.  Warmer today..."

                                                                             Aww

Things I'd Rather Be Doing Right Now...

-drinking another glass of wine (yay for hour long lunch breaks!)
-lying down in the park
-lying down in my bed
-actually working
-finding something on the internet that I haven't already discovered
-literally anything else than what I'm currently doing
-listening to "Little Secrets" by Passion Pit.
-murdering a homeles--

...Hold the phone! I CAN listen to "Little Secrets" right now. Homeless dude, today is your lucky day.

Long Weekend

Friday
6:00p.m.-Leave the office and grab an R train down to Prince street to hit up the beverage center for a rack of PBR's and Blueberry Lager for Lee.  Already carrying a full bookbag, wearing Levis that breath worse then an obese coal miner with a pack-a-day habit.
6:16 p.m.-Realize this was a horrible idea and that I let my affinity for Cig Handsome cloud my judgement.  Sweat begins to poor and I contemplate taking a piss on the side of a Chinese restaurant.
6:17 p.m.-Decide against the public urination and turn up the volume on my ipod to distract me.  Run into a portly Asian woman rounding a corner too fast.  She picks up the pace immediately in the opposite direction.
6:25p.m.-Sweats pouring.  Arrive at the beer store after taking a wrong turn on Chrystie.  They tell me they're closed, I tell them fuck you (nicely).  Buy a case of Red,White n Blues and a 6 of Blue Point for the boo.
7:08 p.m.-Arrive at Lees.  Muscles Ache and drenched in sweat from carrying 40 pounds of booze 15 blocks in 80 degree weather wearing jeans.  Hop in the shower and curse Cig Handsome and his stupid birthday.
8:30 p.m.-Arrive at Officers apartment, sans girls, with all the booze.  Commence with heavy and aggressive drinking.
10:oo p.m. -Drunk.  Full of pizza and pride, meet Cogchill out front where we take cabs to Pier 69 and the Frying Pan.  Ahhh, summer has arrived.
10:30 p.m. First few pitchers out of the way, round of shots, which no one finishes except for me.  Pour the remaining shots into my beer, have a brief moment of self doubt, followed by pride, and chug.   I'm a champion.  I am un-stoppable.
11:15 p.m.-  Dance-off!  Have a 5 minute dance battle with some freak who looks like Jerry Garcia and Al Jankowitch had a love child and fed it angle dust.  He claims victory.  I claim he sucks, shake his hand and decide he needs this more than I do, conceding defeat.
12:00 a.m.:In cab to another bar in LES, realize the birthday boy is passed out on my shoulder,  and tell the cab driver to turn around.
12:30 a.m.-Lee's apt.  Too drunk and exhausted to be ashamed of how early the night ended and  think of anything but the sweet surrender to sleep.

Saturday
11:30 a.m.-Depart Lee's with Cig Handsome.  Meet Cogchill outside  and head for what promises to be an interesting brunch.
12:00 p.m.-First drinks are served at the Italian cafe on 3rd.  All you can drink Mimosas, so we put our testicles to the side and channel our Real Housewives of NYC (In actuality I can't drink Bloody Mary's, so I drink Mimosas much more than I'd like to admit).  Actual food is an afterthought.  We're here to rock.  We in this bitch.
1:00 p.m.-Getting wasted.  Things are going as planned.   Eating as slowly as possible now, trying to keep the free booze flowing.  They've at least about 4 bottles of Champagne solely for us, and that plus the fact that I woke up still drunk leads to an overwhelming sense of well being.
1:20 p.m.-Finally are handed our check, which their way of saying get the fuck out of here and stop scaring the other patrons.  Feeling like we've gotten away with murder for how cheaply I just got drunk, I call it a victory and leave a fat tip.
2;00 p.m.-Sipping Bud Lights on the Officer's balcony discussing deep philosophical nuggets such as Vegas and taboo sex acts.
3:30 p.m.-Crashing.  Head back to Bushwick for a shower and R&R.  Jamaican beef patties, New Ports and grape drink help us revive enough to make it back to Manhattan by 8:oo.
8:05 p.m.-Grab Espressos by Union Square and walk up Park to Murray Hill.
8:20 p.m.-Drinks outback of Underground while Cogchill tries to talk his mother through transferring cash into my account, as he's "left his debit card at home" (not the first time).
9:00 p.m-More drinks on Officer's balcony accompanied by the Up in Smoke Tour DVD (don't ask).
12:00 a.m.-Arrive at Fiddle Sticks.  Much drunker than I realize.  After my initial freak-out over how crowded this place is with bro-clones hawking girls, relax and start ordering double jack n gingers.  Things are looking up.

1:30 a.m. to ??? a.m. -
From here on out don't remember much.  Outside talking to some music producer and bullshitting him about my role at my company.  Offer him  my card and some bad advice.  Go back inside to find Cogchill in a fight with some girl because she made fun of his shirt.  He called her ugly.  Girls don't like this.  I apologize for him.  He hugs me.  He leaves.  I get drunker.  Lee looks gorgeous.  I almost fight an Asian (allegedly).  I scream on the cab ride back about pizza that I will eventually have someone order, not pay for, and not eat.  Sleep.

Sunday
11:30 a.m.-Breakfast with Lee.  She looks cute.  I look like a train-wreck.  I eat a ton, feel horrible.
3:00 p.m.-Attempt to get Star Trek tickets: Sold Out.  Buy Angels and Demons instead.  Mildly disappointed i get over it with a large popcorn, soda and sour patch kids.  I am fat.  I am a loser.  I feel o.k. with that.
6:00 p.m.-Movie was "eh".  Return to Lee's and have her rub my upset stomach.  Wonder why it hurt?
7:00:  China Town.  Weird Chinese place with neon pink lights inside everywhere.  Immediately I am scared.  Lo Mein arrives at the table next to us that looks like heaven.  Relief washes over me.  I am happy now.  We eat.  I feel worse than before, yet content.  Walk around the block for some ice cream.  First time I've done so in almost a year.  Guy comments on my cone outside "cool ice cream", which makes the hundreds of dollars and months I've taken off my life all worth it.
11:40 p.m.-Bed with Lee.  Exhausted mentally and physically, this is exactly what I need.  Good weekend, good night.  Happy birthday Cig Handsome and Magstress.

NEXT WEEKEND:

Lee and Miserable go to D.C.

Shaqtastic

A few weeks back I brought you the news of Emil Hircsh crossing into the world of music.  Today I bring you another celebrity, this one hailing from the world of sports.  Shaq has already proved his worth as an actor ("Blue Chips", "Kazaam"), both HIGHLY respectable movies (I actually did like "Blue Chips" , Nick Nolte you rule), and now he proves to us his mastery on the ivory.  Scroll up to around 1:20 sit back and enjoy.

-Extreme inebriation
-Fun
-A passive aggressive attitude that may or may not work against you (must be the Sake & Beer combo working against each other)
-Texting a girl you barely know you want yo f&%k her with your donkey dick (Officer)

-PHENOMENAL sex
-PHENOMENAL hangover

Song of the Day

These two are some good s*%t.  Look for the album dropping soon.  Love this movie, love this song.

Pic of the Day

"Every breath you take, every move you make, I'll be watching you..."

Emil Hirsch Does Designer Drugs?

I came across an interesting link the other day.  It was to a MGMT "Electric Feel" remix that a group called Emil & Friends produced.  After contently listening to the choppy, sampled out take on E.F., I was intrigued to say the least.  It was the best re-edit of the song I'd heard (other than Justice's) dropped.  Come to find out, the group is Emil Hirsch's, as in the 4 foot tall movie star who's griminess in  Alpha Dog made you cringe and homosexuality in "Milk" made you, well, not?  (pause)

There are buckets of celebs who try to cross over into music, but it always ends up some cheesy, typical indie or pop sound and it's almost always a failed experiment.  Hirsch however goes at in a whole different way, making modern synthy tech-lectro pop (I think I just coined that phrase).  The MGMT remix aside, there are a few sick tracks available on their myspace that only make my respect level grow for him (unfortunately for Emil, it didn't make HIM grow as well).  Bonus points for having such a tripped out, ridiculous myspace that's so retarded and seizure inducing it makes it cool.

It's refreshing knowing that there are super-rich actors out there that actually have taste, and aren't afraid to use it.  Emil may be the first ever true Hollywood rock-star (Mickey Avalon aside...of course), and L2H salutes the Speedracer in his newest endeavor.

Remix (song) of the Day

This is NOT a remix, but it IS pretty dope.  People like Kanye & ?uestlove have been up on Rob Roy for a while now, me not so much.  However I'm up on him before you (maybe?) so don't hate.  Song's ill, video may be better.

Albany Firebirds Apparently Not Dog Lovers...

I came across some phenomenal news this afternoon.  My 'home team', the team who's games I grew up attending with my father, who have risen like a Pheonix from the ashes of an even more sub-par Arenafootball2 team this '09 season, the Albany Firebirds, are going after Michael Vick!

Now this doesn't surprise me, after all they did retire 'Touchdown' Eddie Brown's jersey a few years back even after several run-ins with the law, and an apparant domestic dispute (this guy LITERALLY worked at my high-school after retiring from his 'illustrious' career in the arena league.  Kids would torment him and call him 'Pushdown' Eddie Brown after reports that he pushed his girlfriend/wife/ho [who knows?] down a flight of stairs.)  However, reaching out to Michael Vick, the latest national villian in pro sports, is just on some next level gully shit.

Apparently Vick, who is now bankrupt, must somehow donate $100,000 to the Mohawk & Hudson River Humane Society as part of the deal?  This is priceless...

Also, he must first be officially reinstated into the NFL before he can sign....

Also, AFL players make $200 a game, which may seem like a lot compared to the 12 cents an hour he is currently making assembling license plates or whatever they have him doing (dog grooming?), but to a man who used to have a $130 million contract this offer may not seem that inticing...

Now, while this may not be a realistic offer by the Firebirds (who are 0-5), it IS one of the funniest moves by a GM since..well...ever.  If this deal somehow ever went through, I would seriously consider quitting my job in NYC, purchasing season tickets, and moving back to Albany.  I don't support Vick or his actions in any way, but this move and the shit circus that would follow it would be too good to pass up.

Albany Firebirds, you are HARD BODY...

Remix of the Day

This rmx was dropped over a year ago, but I just came across it recently and find it still very relevant.  B.B.'s take on Timbo's "Miscommunication".  Hits hard, makes me wanna start slammin Jack & Cokes at Webster Hall.

Never again...

Congressmen get arrested: This time no illegal sex acts invovled!

Most stories you hear about these days when it comes to politics are all partison takes on how much someone fucked up, how a certain newcomer to Washington is the next
Hitler, or someone trying to solicit someone else for some sato-massacistic sex act.

Today I'm happy to report some actual inspring and uplifting news from D.C. however.  5 lawmakers were arrested this afternoon outside the Sudan embassy in Washington, D.C., for crossing the police line during a demontration against the genocide in Darfur.

"You have to find a way to dramatize an issue," Rep. John Lewis (D-Georgia)  said while being led away by police, after his arrest along with  Jim McGovern (D-Massachusetts), Donna Edwards (D-Maryland), Keith Ellison (D-Minnesota), and Lynn Woolsey (D-California).  The congressmen (and women) were cuffed and led away after repeated warnings from police to back away.

While this may be construed as a political move by Republicans, the bottom line is it was a bold stand against a gross disregard for human rights that, no matter what the motive behind it, will certainly draw attention to a righteous and imortant cause.   It is not every day that a high profile politician would put himself in this position and go through the bullshit of being arrested (been there) for a truly worthy cause.

John Lewis, 'this Bud's for you.'

Sorry about the lack of posts.  A busy weekend, workdays, and illness has kept it to a minimum.  However as R.O.T.D. posts are too easy, I can at least handle one of those today.  This one comes from Treasure Fingers, the man when it comes to disco-tech remixes.  Here his remix of E.O.T.S.'s "Walking On A Dream''.

Couldn't get the embed, but here's a link to this remix.  This re-work hits hardbody (you don't own that YW), typical Villains.  More on N.A.S.A. later.

"Wha wha whaaaaachha doiiin?'

"Oh definietly got some weather. Things are a little more complicated than they seemed at first.."

Remix of the Day

Second Rusko remix I've put up.  I'm feeling the Dub-Step lately, and Rusko does it all too correct.  He actually spun in Brooklyn last Friday, which I missed do to a return home for Easter, a mistake I won't let happen again.

Everyone's heard the Crookers remix, but this one is less known and just as tight, just in a much "fatter, loose sloppy bass" way.  Tell your friends.

Remix of the Day

Far from new, but just re-discovered on the iPhizzle.  Love the original by Paul Simon, and Cudi's use of the beat.  Only wish he'd done something with the hook, either sampled it or made it his own somehow, like the verses.  Still a tight track.

"Lerechauns not have speed keep up with Machine"

I was put on to these videos by the always on point SnoochyPig 2 days ago, and almost had a seizure I was laughing so hard.  Seriously people, my chest and stomach were so tight and convulsing I thought I was going to break a  rib, throw up, or both.  I don't know what it is, maybe it's just me, but even after an 18 hour work day last night, all I wanted to do when I got home was throw these on for a few more rounds, which resulted in the same fit of joy.  The response was, dare I say, AUTO-MATIC.  They are videos from Lakers-fan.com, and unfortunately these are the only NBA Finals one featuring The Machine, AKA Sasha Vujacic, as of yet, although there is a semi-funny Paul Pierce one out there and more Machine spoofs on their site.

Enjoy...

Amends

I'm only posting this picture to make up for the fact that I just washed out a trash can at work.

BMW Art Installation in Grand Central

Me and my lovely lady friend had ourselves a fantastic Sunday this past weekend.  We walked across the Brooklyn Bridge, hung out in DUMBO, got a great dinner, and finished it off with "Slumdog Millionaire".  But perhaps the coolest, or at least most cultural 'activity' we did was check out the BMW Art Installation that was coming to an end in Grand Central.  I believe Sunday was the last day, so I should've mentioned this earlier, but I felt I'd share some pictures 'Lee' got and, as I'm too lazy to write in my own words what it was all about, paste GermanCarScene.com 's blurb about it.

"A public art installation will open in New York's Grand Central Terminal on March 25, 2009, featuring two distinct sections made possible by BMW.  One is a collection of four iconic BMW Art Cars designed by:

 Andy Warhol,

  Rob Lichtenstein,

Robert Rauschenberg,

and Frank Stella" (only pic not taken by (Lee))

Also there was a project by Robin Rhode, a contemporary artist.  He used the all new 2009 BMW Z4 Roadster mounted with special paint dispensers to create a footbal sized painting, a 30' by 40' sections of which was on display as well as the car that created it.

The installation as a whole was visually stunning and  very cool to see such original pieces only feet away (you could see Warhols finger traces in his car).  I'd read about the 'Art Cars' years before in my Pop's Autoweek, and to see them up close and in person was very surreal.  Thanks for coming with me String-Bean.
